“the thrill of witnessing clients find their voices and conquer barriers, enabling them to live their best lives, still gives me goosebumps.”

Why I Became an SLP: A Personal Journey

In a small classroom in Georgia, I witnessed the transformative power of speech therapy as two young boys grappled with communication challenges. One stuttered, while the other struggled with speech sounds, making interaction with peers an uphill battle. However, the moment they stepped into the Speech room, joy radiated from their smiles — speech therapy became their sanctuary.

It was in that moment that I felt the calling to become the key unlocking communication doors. Determined, I pursued my B.S. Ed and M. Ed. in Communication Science Disorders. My journey led me to Jacksonville, FL, where my graduate internship unfolded into a diverse career.

Over the years, I've worked in various settings — skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, public and private schools, private practice, home health care, and teletherapy. Each opportunity strengthened my commitment to being a catalyst for communication breakthroughs.

Even after a decade in the field, the thrill of witnessing clients find their voices and conquer barriers, enabling them to live their best lives, still gives me goosebumps. This is more than a profession; it's a calling. Serving in this capacity feels like precisely where I am meant to be.
